Working with unknowing in coaching and supervision
This session leans into the experience of unknowing. Constructs of leadership valorise the hero who “knows” how to strike forward. But the reality of many of our clients is one of complexity, in which the way through is not discernible in advance. Coaches often collude in the fantasy of knowing, drawing both coach and coachee into a spiral of anxiety in the face of difficult challenges that are not amenable to simple or linear solutions.
We will approach unknowing not as a form of ignorance to be overcome but as a way of stepping back from the false knowing that oversimplifies the reality that coaches and coachees might co-create. Based on practices of meditation in relationship developed by Gregory Kramer, we'll encounter unknowing in dialogue.
